Zahira College Matale proudly celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2017 with the grand alumni-led event titled “Zahira Walk 2017.” The celebration brought together students, parents, staff, alumni and well-wishers from across Sri Lanka and overseas, marking one of the largest community gatherings in the College’s recent history.
The walk featured cultural performances, traditional drumming, music, reunion activities, exhibition stalls and photo archives that highlighted the College’s journey since 1942. Participants marched through the streets of Matale, showcasing not only school spirit but also Zahira’s long-standing contributions to education, sports and social development in the region.
The event served as a bridge between generations, strengthening the bond between past and present Zahirians while reinforcing the school’s identity as a respected educational institution with deep community ties. The participation of prominent alumni, public figures and community leaders added prestige to the occasion, reflecting the College’s positive impact on society over several decades.
The anniversary celebrations continued with commemorative programs, religious observances, felicitation ceremonies, and a special recognition of past principals and teachers, acknowledging their leadership and service to Zahira College Matale. The event symbolized gratitude to the past, pride in the present and optimism for the future as Zahira continues its educational mission in the Matale district and beyond.
