Teachers’ Development Unit Opened

In November 2019, the Colombo Branch of the Zahira College Matale Old Boys’ Association (OBA) officially inaugurated a Teachers’ Development Unit at the College premises. The initiative was fully funded and coordinated by alumni in response to the growing need for continuous professional development, modern teaching exposure and improved learning resources for teachers.

The newly established unit aims to strengthen instructional quality by providing teachers access to academic workshops, pedagogical training programs, digital learning tools and subject-specific development sessions. The unit also functions as a collaborative space where educators can exchange best practices, study updated syllabuses and explore new methodologies aligned with 21st-century education standards.

At the opening ceremony, representatives of the OBA highlighted the importance of investing in teacher development as a cornerstone for improving student outcomes. Former principals, retired teachers and senior alumni graced the event, acknowledging the historic role of teachers in shaping generations of Zahirians.

The initiative signifies the strong partnership between the College and its alumni, demonstrating how OBA networks continue to contribute meaningfully to institutional growth long after leaving the school. The Teachers’ Development Unit stands as a sustainable step toward enhancing the academic environment and ensuring Zahira College Matale remains competitive and progressive in the national education landscape.
